Burgess Rural Conference - October 2024
Burgess Rural conducts two conferences each year. Each conference gives us the opportunity to come together as one big team, to share our knowledge and expertise, and focus on our collective professional development. Burgess Rural is also privileged to have an experienced and well-regarded group of partner consultants who attend each conference and who offer support and assistance to ensure our agricultural practices reflect best practice.
The October Conference was held at the Lockerbie, Little Billabong and Bucki farms, situated in New South Wales. Our Farm Managers, Ben McCarthy, Paddy Mulquiny and Daniel Rowson showed the team around each individual farm and discussed their strategies for the continuous improvement and expansion. This included Little Billabong, a recent addition to the Burgess Rural Portfolio. To round out the formal learning and development agenda, our Group Agricultural Manager, and partner consultants, conducted a series of presentations sharing data analysis and benchmarking outcomes for our rural portfolio.
It wouldn’t be a Burgess Rural Conference without a healthy injection of rivalry and competition, and this conference was no exception. Each farm team, and the Head Office team, pulled out all the stops in the hope they would come away with a win and the bragging rights that come with it. The competition was fierce as always, and our winners are listed below.
-
On the first day of the conference, our farm staff attend an onsite Dog School aimed at developing and improving the way they work with the dog across a variety of farm-based skills. This learning is then put to the test with the dog trainer assessing and scoring a teams ability to complete a timed course.
October 2024 winner - Daniel Rowson, Bucki
2nd & 3rd - Shane Allan, Glenaroua
-
This competition puts team member against team member as we all make our way through a putt- putt style course.
This competition and award is dedicated to Ern Burgess who founded Burgess Rural and laid the foundation for the business we are today.
October 2024 Winner - Courtney Wilkinson
-
The October Conference included the inaugural Best Agricultural Invention Award. Our teams were challenged to share an invention of their own that improves the day to day life of a farmer. The entries didn't disappoint with all inventions impressing the Burgess Rural team, however, in the end there can only be one winner.
October 2024 Winner - Shane Allan and the Glenaroua team.
